Upon your arrival in Georgia, you will be welcomed and transferred from the airport to your hotel. After a brief rest, meet your guide in the hotel lobby to start your 14-day tour to Georgia with a Tbilisi City tour. Your journey begins at the awe-inspiring Holy Trinity Cathedral, Georgia's tallest religious structure, built between 1993 and 2004. This architectural marvel, known for its towering golden dome, is visible from almost every vantage point in the city. Continue to the historic quarters of Tbilisi. Visit the historical Metekhi Church, perched on a precipice overlooking the Mtkvari River and dating back to the 13th century. Next, make your way to the ancient Narikala fortress, which was built as a defensive bastion in the 4th century. Ascend to this historic fortification via ropeway and take in the panoramic splendor of Tbilisi. Then, descend to Meidan Square and explore the historical Abanotubani, famous for its sulfur baths.
Your path then leads you through the Legvtakhevi Canyon to a hidden waterfall in the heart of Old Tbilisi before arriving at Shardeni Street, known for its quaint cafes and wine bars. Visit the Sioni Cathedral, a Georgian historical monument dating back to the 6th century housing the revered St. Nino's Cross. The day also includes a visit to Freedom Square, the iconic Bridge of Peace, Anchiskhati Basilica, and the Rezo Gabriadze Theatre's renowned clock tower before returning to the hotel. In the evening, we will enjoy delicious Georgian dishes and traditional folklore show at the local restaurant.
Kakheti, a region renowned for its viticulture heritage, is a must-see destination for any cultural tours in Georgia. Spend the next two days immersed in this region's ancient viniculture traditions. Begin your exploration at the Alaverdi Monastery, an establishment dating back to the 6th century, founded by the monk Joseph Alaverdeli. The monastery's original structure serves as the foundation for its current Cathedral, a magnificent example of Georgian Orthodox architecture from the 11th century.
Our journey then takes you to Vardisubani, where you will have the unique opportunity to visit a local Qvevri (clay vessel) workshop. Engage with Georgia's most renowned Qvevri masters to learn about this traditional winemaking craft. Proceed to Tsinandali, the estate of Alexander Chavchavadze, a well-known 19th-century public figure and poet. Explore an exquisite English garden surrounding the residence, as well as a wine cellar stocked with Georgian and European wines. Have a glass of Tsinandali's signature white wine.
Conclude the day with a visit to Telavi, where you will see Batonis Tsikhe, a museum dedicated to King Erekle II, and the unique Giant Plane Tree, followed by an overnight stay at a local hotel.
Following breakfast, your journey will take you to the Gremi fortress, a 15th-16th century structure that now houses a church, a tower palace, and a museum. Proceed to Kvareli to visit the Khareba Winery, a one-of-a-kind wine cellar/tunnel that provides a wine tour and tasting experience. Next, you'll visit Sighnaghi, the well-known 'city of love' with panoramic views of the Alazani Valley. The town is encircled by the remains of a defensive wall with 23 towers. Ascend one of these towers to stroll along the wall, admiring the views. The journey continues to the Bodbe Monastery, a 9th-century nunnery with picturesque gardens. Return to Tbilisi for overnight.
The journey to Kazbegi begins in the morning with a stop at the Jvari monastery, a UNESCO world heritage site founded in the sixth century, overlooking the confluence of the Aragvi and Mtkvari rivers. Next, your route then takes you to the Ananuri Fortress, a grand complex with two churches, multiple towers, and defense walls set against the backdrop of the Zhinvali reservoir. Continue along the Georgian Military Highway to Kazbegi, making photo stops at the Gudauri View Point, also known as the Friendship Monument, and the Jvari Overpass Travertine Natural Monument. When you arrive in Stepantsminda, hike or drive to the Gergeti Holy Trinity Church and take in the stunning views of Mount Kazbek. The day will conclude with an overnight stay in Gudauri.
Start your day with a drive to Gori, the birthplace of Joseph Stalin. Visit Stalin's House museum, with a photo opportunity at the Gori Fortress. The journey then takes you to Uplistsikhe, an ancient cave town situated on the Mtkvari River's left bank. Dating back to the first and second millennia B.C., Uplistsikhe was a vital center of politics, religion, culture, and trade during the Hellenistic and Late Antique periods. We will explore numerous significant cave structures within the complex.
The journey then continues to Akhaltsikhe, the main town in the Samtskhe-Javakheti region, which is known for its multicultural history and architectural variety. The city, whose name translates to "New Castle," has long been a melting pot of diverse nationalities and religions, with Georgian, Armenian, and Catholic churches, as well as a synagogue and mosque. Explore Rabati Castle, a historical fortress dating back to the 9th century that was recently renovated in 2012. The day will end with an overnight stay at a hotel in Akhaltsikhe.
After breakfast, head to Vardzia, one of three famous cave towns of Georgia. A short stop at Khertvisi Fortress from the 10th-14th centuries, overlooking the confluence of the Paravani and Mtkvari Rivers. Vardzia extends roughly 500 meters along the Cliffside and offers breathtaking views. The town's history, which dates back to the 12th and 13th centuries, is closely linked to King George III and his daughter Tamar, also known as King Tamar. Today, only 400 of the original 3000 caverns remain, including living quarters, tunnels, wine cellars, and a church with portraits of King George and King Tamar.
Following that, your cultural tour in Georgia will take you to the western part of the country. Your journey concludes with a scenic drive through the upper Racha region's forest zone, offering stunning views.
Begin your day by visiting the historic Jewish Synagogue of Oni, built in 1895. It is the third-largest synagogue in Georgia. The journey continues to Shovi, an alpine resort nestled at 1650 meters above sea level, surrounded by towering Caucasus Mountains that reach an average height of 4000 meters. Drive to Ambrolauri with a visit to the Royal Khvanchkara local wine factory, where you can sample the distinct flavors of local white and red wines. Continue to Nikortsminda, home to a magnificent dome cathedral from the 11th century, distinguished by its ornate decorations. Head to the ancient city of Kutaisi. On the way, stop for photos at Shaori Lake and, if time allows, Tskhrajvari, the highest point in the Racha Range. Locals refer to this location as "Tskhrajhvari" - Nine Crosses, as the series of gold and silver crosses are planted next to the tiny chapel at the peak of the cliff. From a height of 1570 meters, you can get a breathtaking view of West Georgia. Arrive in Kutaisi for overnight.
Embark on a one-day tour from Kutaisi to explore the natural wonders of Georgia. After breakfast, discover the wonders of nature at Prometheus Cave, where visitors are welcomed into six of the cave's twenty-two halls, each adorned with stunning stalactites and stalagmites. Descend 40 meters below sea level to explore this 1.8-kilometer-long natural marvel. Depart for the Svaneti region, a place that leaves an indelible impression on all who visit. The local defense stone towers (Koshki) look stunning against the backdrop of lush woodlands and snow-capped peaks. Stay overnight in Mestia.
In the morning, embark on a 4x4 adventure through upper Svaneti. Ushguli, a remote town that has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1996, is home to over 40 historic Svan towers against the backdrop of the snowy Mount Shkhara. Wander through the village, ascending to the Lamaria Church, which dates back to the 10th century. Return to Mestia to see Margiani's house museum, a stunning old Svan home with an adjoining tower known as 'Margianis Machubi'. Finish your day with an overnight stay in a hotel.
