Set out on a captivating one-day wine tour to Kakheti from Tbilisi, a journey that will take you deep into the heart of Georgia's most famous winemaking region. The first stop is the Alaverdi Monastery, a holy site where the monastic tradition was founded by Joseph Alaverdeli, an Antiochian monk who settled there. Alaverdi's religious structure dates back to the sixth century, with the current Cathedral emerging as part of an 11th-century Georgian Orthodox Monastery.
Proceed to Napareuli to learn about Georgian culinary traditions through master classes in breadmaking and churchkhela.
The itinerary then takes you to Tsinandali, which houses the museum of Alexander Chavchavadze, a 19th-century poet and public figure known for his European sophistication. Explore the English Garden and a wine cellar with an impressive collection of Georgian and European wines, from which guests are kindly offered a glass of Tsinandali's white wine as a welcome gift.
The journey continues to Telavi, where the Batonis Tsikhe awaits. This museum, dedicated to King Erekle II, offers a detailed look at Georgian royalty and history. The day ends with a visit to a local family winery and Kvevri workshop, where the father and son, well-known for their long-standing qvevri production traditions, will lead an informative tour of the meticulous process of qvevri making, from clay preparation and shaping to drying and baking.
